Dr. Kopp on Borneo
Developmental and Evolutionary Biology.

Location: 343-345 Briggs Hall.
Graduate groups: Genetics, Cell and Developmental Biology, and Population Biology.

Welcome to the Kopp lab.  We are part of the Center for Genetics and Development and the Section of Evolution and Ecology.  This dual affiliation is a good reflection of our multifarious interests.  Research in our lab is very synthetic and ranges from developmental genetics and genomics to population biology and field work.  Our projects follow two general tracks that converge and intertwine as much as the outside universe allows.  In our capacity as developmental biologists, we try to gain a deeper understanding of the genetic circuits that control animal development.  At the same time, we explore questions that lie at the interface between development and evolution.  In our lab, the synthesis of developmental and evolutionary biology works both ways: comparative approaches help us understand the origin and evolution of developmental mechanisms, while developmental genetic techniques allow us to unravel the molecular basis of evolution.  More information about our work and pretty pictures of flies can be found here.
